AAMA President Calls for Unified Response to Tornado Destruction

WASHINGTON, DC —  Today, Mayor Oliver Gilbert III of Miami Gardens, FL, and President of the African American Mayors Association (AAMA) is calling for federal, state and local governments to coordinate their efforts in the wake of a series of deadly tornadoes that swept through Alabama and parts of the Southeast on Sunday.

At least 23 people have died and another 60 people were injured in Lee County, Alabama, where two tornadoes struck the community.

“Our collective prayers are with the victims and communities affected by the deadly tornadoes in Alabama. We stand with the first responders and our colleague mayors who are working to assist survivors and all those in need.  

“On behalf of mayors across the country, AAMA calls for a unified effort between federal, state, and local governments to provide relief to those who are suffering from this disaster. We offer our unwavering support for an expedited recovery and rebuilding of these communities.”
